So Close

Last night I finished the first sleeve only to realize I messed it up. I don`t even know how it happened but the side cables on the sleeves ended up really far from the central cable and so you cannot see them from the front at all. They are placed on the inside of my arm. I must have knitted more stitches between the cable patterns. The trouble is that the side cables start before the sleeves are separated from the body, which means I would have to rip almost the whole sweater. Other than that, I am really happy with the fit of this sweater. I like how the raglan design accentuates the shoulders and how the cables at the bottom of the sweater shape the waist so I don`t think the sleeve bothers me that much for me to rip it all. Only now I have to be careful to mess up the second sleeve in the same way.

I love the fit on you! Wonderful job! You made so much progress so quickly.

And I agree, keep the "mess up" on the sleeve. It looks totally fine.

(Can I ask about the size you chose? I'm in the middle of the increases on the second diamond, and I'm trying to decide whether to stop at the next one or to go the next size up...)

Anna it looks fantastic! Can you explain the extra row of increases that you put in to solve the left/right cable pattern on your sleeves? Could that be what shifted them? I wouldn't rip, yours looks great. I actually put this down when I got to the left/right cables...I haven't been able to figure a solution I'm happy with yet.

Thank you for all the lovely comments. I am really excited at how this sweater is coming out. About the size, I actually went a size, almost two sizes down. I wanted to make the 31 3/4" size, which is one size smaller than my bust circumference. I found out that negative ease works best for me. Besides, the Cotton Fleece that I am using is pretty stretchy. When I devided the sleeves from the body and tried it on, I found out that it was still to wide (my stitch gauge is sligtly larger too). I unraveled 6 rows to the point where I would finish if I was making the smallest size and then I continued for six rows without any increases. The number of stitches was the same as for the smallest size, the number of rows as for the second smallest. There is no way I have a 28 and 3/4" bust circumference but it works for me. I love top-down designs because I can try the sweater on as I knit and add a few increases or decreases here and there.
As for the cables on the sleeves I knit an extra stitch between the seem (the place between the body and the sleeve) and the cable pattern. That way I was always crossing a stitch that I increased the right side row below it.
And I think my mess was caused by crossing the side cables in a wrong direction right before I devided the sleeves from the body. I must have looked at a wrong row in the pattern.

Very pretty! About the sleeves: I'm having a lot of trouble with the size 6 dpn's - somehow the "transition" stitches always come out too tight or too lose. I've never had this problem when making socks, but then again, socks require size 0 or 1 needles. Any advice for keeping the tension even on the sleeves?

It is divine. The fit is perfect and I think you have to look at the placement of the sleeve's side cable's as "an original design element" that makes your sweater unique. What mess? Repeat after me: There is no mess, only a design element!

Still gorgeous. And all even before I receive my stinking IK. I am sooooo jealous.
